As a fan of Danielle McLaughlin’s short stories, I was really excited to hear that her first novel was to be published on 4th February by John Murray – thank you to the lovely folks there who kindly sent me an ARC for review purposes.
From the first page, I knew this was a book I would love: I immediately clicked with Danielle McLaughlin’s writing, finding it to be insightful, witty and evocative.
“To be rather than to seem,” are the opening lines to the novel, and the motto of Nessa’s daughter’s school. These words set us up perfectly for what is to come, as this is a novel about perceptions of truth, along with the secrets and lies we hide.
